A couple things

  • Aug. 28th, 2008 at 12:36 AM
1. I'm starting a new position as a nanny. I've gone through this independently and not used an agency, and I don't have prior nannying experience. The parents would like a criminal background search done. Which hey, I'm fine with but I'm just not sure how to go about it.

Google searches yield an amazing amount of companies that do this. So, does anyone have any company that they've used before? Any companies to avoid? I don't know if it will make a difference, but just want to point out that I'm from out of state.

*EDIT* I know I shouldn't have to arrange it, but I'm trying to start off on the right foot, as this is on a trial basis. So assuming I had no choice, what would you suggest?

2. Help me settle an argument: My friend claims that the actual urinal is also called a "stall". I say that the entire area encompassing the individual urinal is a "stall". Looking it up in a dictionary proves I am right. But he still insists that people call the actual porcelin thing a "stall". He's male. I'm female. Maybe he's right, but I kind of think not. Anyone?

Sushi with brown rice?

  • Aug. 27th, 2008 at 10:21 PM
Anyone know of a restaurant in Portland (SE, N, or NE, please!) that can make sushi, especially California rolls, with brown rice?  I keep asking whenever I visit one, and they never can!

new book, another signing

  • Aug. 27th, 2008 at 9:58 PM
I'll be signing my new little book-set down at Powell's on Hawthorne tomorrow night (at 8pm, I think). I hope some of you people will come say hello and maybe pick up a copy.

I'll also be doing a short reading...

digital scale,

  • Aug. 27th, 2008 at 9:54 PM
where does one find a kitchen and or postal type scale, in digital form?

and no, its not for drugs.

i wanna make handmade soap, and measurements must be exact.

i didn't feel like ordering one online and i cant right now, because my bank effed up me getting my debit card! bastards.

tia.
I'll be signing tomorrow night at powell's. I'm having a total panic attack about what I should read.

I think I might read the squid and cat comic strip. I'll go through and take out all the words and photocopy the images onto transparencies for the overhead projector (no power point for me). I don't know though. I don't know if it's adult enough of a story... Damn but this is giving me anxiety...

total anxiety.

Borrowing camping equipment?

  • Aug. 27th, 2008 at 8:41 PM
Does anyone have camping equipment they'd be willing to loan out for a month? I'm biking from Portland to Olympia and then on to Victoria and would love a tent, camping stove, or any kind of sleeping pad/air mattress. I'm sure lots of people have this stuff sitting in their basement and only use it twice a year...

Thanks in advance.

Anyone need a bed?

  • Aug. 27th, 2008 at 7:31 PM
New to Portland? Need a bed set? I'm moving to Seattle (frowny face x 1000000) next week and need to get rid of mine and all that comes with it!

Bed is a high quality, Premier Plush, Stearns & Foster Queen made in Portland! Only a year old, perfectly firm, and great for normally sore backs. I've slept like a baby every night in this wonderful bed. I'm sad to see it go :(

With it comes a matching box-spring (also a year old), a white mattress cover, 2 sets of 400 count sheets in light blue and green, a light green/cream reversible comforter, a cream skirt, and a black ikea frame, all bought within the last 4 months.

The only thing that is not included are the pillows. Those are the only things coming with me. :)

All of the above is going for $200 and I live in inner SE.
